Australian BioResources is primarily dedicated to the breeding and housing of purpose bred, genetically modified (GM), mutant and congenic mouse lines, owned by research groups at Garvan or the Partner Institutes. The number and diversity of genetically modified mouse lines has flourished since the mapping of the mouse genome and specially designed mouse lines are now developed to answer specific questions posed by medical research. Detailed information about the hundreds of different lines as well as individual mice is recorded on an animal facility database called 'Stuart'. Researchers can view this information via a secure web interface.
Apart from the GM lines, the facility breeds a limited number of core colonies of standard inbred and outbred strains that can be sold to accredited research establishments on a cost per animal basis. |
